Consular processing refers to the final stage of the immigration process of people who are residing overseas. Once the immigrant visa petitioin has been approved by the USCIS, then the approved petition is transferred to the National Visa Center of the U.S. Department of State. Depending on the type of immigrant visa petition, the consular processing can start immediately after the case is transferred if an immigrant visa is immediately available , or it may take time for the immigrant visa to become available. The immigrant applicant needs to complete form DS-260, an Immigrant Visa Application and to submit the required civil documents. The petitoiner needs to submit his or her Affidavit of Support(Form I-864) along with the required financial evidence. Upont receipt of all required documents, the NVC will review the case, and if all requirements are satisfied, then the case will be transferred to the appropriate consulate for the immigrant visa interview.
